Presentation at Personal Assistant Meeting

Tonight I had the opportunity to speak about career success at a NYC Personal Assistant meeting on the Upper East Side. 

I discussed how to know if you are a good fit for a career -- I included an in-depth quiz. The results explain career strengths. I included interview questions to ask employers. Using the "do you have any questions?" moment to show that you care about making sure it's a good fit is impressive to employers.  Also, finding out in a subtle way if they will value your greatest career strengths or not gives you a lot of important information about what to expect from the job.

Why is change so hard?

Why do we do the same routines for decades, all the while knowing they are not right for us? When we make a change, we bring up ancient, primal pain – the pain of life or death. The fear of losing our life. The pain of losing the little we have already gathered together in our worlds. This is like trying to take a bone from a dog – good luck. It makes sense. Think of a cave person. Would they shake up their routine just to see what happened? Probably not. Leaving the cave at a different time might mean getting eaten by a big animal -- better to stick with what you know! So when we are making changes, the same gut-level fears can arise. 4 Hurdles for Transitioning From a "Regular Job" to Entrepreneurship

Becoming an overnight entrepreneur? Easier said than done -- a lifetime of structure (from education to the corporate world) can make it difficult to fly off on your own. But it can be done!
